Spider veins are visible to the eye but smooth to the touch. They are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins and often are red or blue.
They can look like tree branches or spider webs with short jagged lines. They can be found on the legs, chest, neck, and face and can cover either a very small or very large area of the skin.
Spider veins on the legs can be painful but also limit the style of clothing a person is comfortable wearing. When spider veins are on the face, neck and chest there is often an attempt to cover them with heavy make-up. It is possible to treat spider veins so that you can feel confident and comfortable.

BBL or Yag Laser Treatment
Broadband Light Therapy, BBL, uses wavelengths of intense light to treat an array of unwanted skin conditions. Tiny spider veins on the face, neck or declote can sometimes be treated with a BBL.
When spider veins are on the legs or visibly bolder in clarity on the face and declote the use of a yag laser with the Sciton laser is required. This is done in 30 minute sessions.
When treatment is done on the legs, expect to have 2 days being off your feet for any length of time and the use of compression stockings.
Spider veins come about for a few reasons
- Sun exposure
- Thinning skin
- Weight gain
- Hormonal changes
- Lack of movement
Spider veins can be eliminated with a Broadband Light Therapy (BBL) or Nd YAG Laser. What treatment option is chosen depends on the location of the spider veins and their size. Most often BBL is used for clients who have spider veins on their face, neck and chest; and Nd YAG Laser is used for spider veins on the legs.
